SUBSPECIES

 Last night, I watched this Vampire Horror Film on Shudder after a recommendation from a friend.

"Three female students get caught in the struggle between a good vampire and his evil brother in the Transylvanian mountains."

I had never heard of this film or franchise before yesterday and I'm glad I watched this film as it was quite good.

The film is from Full Moon Studios and was a direct to video production from 1991, there were 6 movies in the franchise.

Unfortunately the first film was the only one available for free as the others in the series and other movies from Full Moon Studios, I will have to pay for a different streaming subscription service which I am not going to do yet.

The special effects were decent and puppet and stop motion based which I loved. The Subspecies themselves were actually stop-motion puppets and they were a tiny group of red skinned demonic humanoids.

Radu, the evil Vampire brother had the typical Count Orlok style hands and fingers and his acting was OTT as was pretty much everybody else.

The film was filmed in Romania and was the first American film to be filmed there after the fall of Communism in Romania.

The story was simple and you could guess certain things that was going to happen before it actually happened.

I highly enjoyed this low budget horror flick and I would put this in one of my favourite Vampire films I've seen.

I shall rate this film a score of 7/10.
