Yesterday afternoon, we watched the latest Doctor Who episode "Dot and Bubble" on BBC iPlayer.
"The world of Finetime seems happy and harmonious. But an awful terror is preying on the citizens. Can the Doctor and Ruby make them see the truth before it's too late?"
Yet another Doctor-Lite episode, as Gatwa was still filming his other show of Sex Education, and his minor filming scenes were his first for the show, and it shows.
The main character is a woman named Lindy, an elitist and racist stupid blonde woman who without her technology, she cannot walk or think for herself. She is very much wrapped up in the whole social media bubble as are the other young people living at Finetime. The only decent character is a blonde singer going by the name of Ricky September, who actually has brains and is a hero until he get's betrayed by Lindy and is killed by the Dot robot.
The Slug monsters were very much Who 70's rubber monster fair and that was okay, but there was a lot of unanswered questions, yet again by the penmanship of RTD who really cannot write a decent script.
The final scene with Lindy turning to the Doctor and refusing his help to get off world because "he is not one of them" and his TARDIS is just "Voodoo" is very racist and will be spoken about for many years to come.
To be honest, they all deserved to die and there was only one likable character and that was September.
For me, the best bit was the song being played "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini" by Timmy Mallet, which became my earworm last night as I tried to sleep.
This is so far, the best episode of the season which is filled with minor pointless bad guys and rubbish written stories.
I shall rate this episode a score of 6/10.
