Doors in folklore and any part associated with the door (keys, posts and thresholds) have extensive magickal qualities. Most magickal rites associated with doors are protective in nature:
-Hang gourds on both sides of the door to ward off unwanted negativity, as well as a wreath of bamboo or leaves and thorns.
-A circle chalked on the door bars ghosts from entering
-Dill or garlic suspended over the front door repels those are ill disposed or envious of you from gaining entrance
-A bag of salt or bells hung from the knowb will set demons to flight

-Paint the door blue (a sacred color)

-An old sock filled with salt, sage, mullein, tansy, can be buried beneath the front porch or by the doorstep to keep ghosts from the home
Also use the door in INVITE certain energies into the home
-Keep 5 shiny pennies beneath the porch to bring the household money and love. A piece of food buried ensures the household will never go hungry.
-To exorcise your house of a ghost, slam the front door several times in succession.
-Legend says that he or she who never shuts a door, will never own a house!
