The "Hejkal" is a Czech forest demon, also known as "hýkal" or "hejkadlo," or the wild man. Its name is derived from the terrifying cry it emits. It is especially dangerous to imitate the Hejkal's cry, as it will then jump on a person's back and chase them through the forest or tear them apart.
Hejkals take the form of men with big mouth and long hands covered in fur or moss. They capture girls and take them as wives, and if they escape, they tear apart their child. They also enjoy frightening pilgrims and diverting them from their path. People protect themselves from Hejkals by turning their pockets inside out, changing shoes, and carrying bread.
