Last night, I finished watching this real good horror comedy series on Netflix.
It is inspired by the popular Singaporean book series Mr. Midnight by James Lee. which consists of 130 books and It is Asia's bestselling children's book series with over 3 million copies sold. The books have been translated into Burmese, Malay, Indonesian, and Chinese.
The series is set in Tanah Merah, Singapore, where a group of students solve strange and paranormal occurrences in their town, Tanah Merah. They record their experiences in their Vlog titled "Mr. Midnight" Things turn sour when the leader of the group of friends finds out that he is a Shaman Mystic called a "Dukun" and he needs to train his emerging abilities and their town is under attack by a demon witch creature called a "Hutan Lahir."
The series of 13 episodes are well written with humour to lighten up the darker moments and the acting is not that bad.
the special effects are decent, a mix of CGI and prosthetics of the creatures are very well done.
The series does end on a cliff-hanger with a twist-ending, so hopefully, they will make a 2nd series.
I love the mythology of all the Eastern creatures and fables that I actually remember some of them from the tales my father told me when I was a kid and what he was told by his servants in Singapore.
This show has also inspired some new story ideas that I'm writing down.
I will rate this series a score of 8/10.
