THE TIGER OF MALAYA

I would like to introduce you to a literary hero from my father's country, Malaysia: "Sandokan", a fictional Malaysian pirate created by the prolific Italian writer Emilio Salgari. Sandokan is the protagonist of a series of adventure novels set in Southeast Asia, in which he fights against the English and their allies.
Sandokan nicknamed the Tiger of Malaya or Tiger of Mompracem: he is a well-known Malaysian pirate with a deep hatred against the British Empire and the White Raja James Brooke because the latter killed his family, the royals of the kingdom of Borneo, so that the England took possession of the region. He stands out from the normal sea raiders because, despite being a strong and brutal warrior, he wears elegant clothes and has a moral code that leads him to be dutiful and to have a strong bond with his "Tiger cubs" (his crew) ; furthermore, he is capable of showing mercy and sparing his adversaries if the latter have surrendered or shown proof of valour. He is tall, charming, very muscular, slender and attractive and has his own cold gaze, with very black eyes capable of fascinating and instilling terror in any enemy, and a grim and severe air.
Powers: he is a normal human being but, as his arch-enemy the White Raja James Brooke described him, «Sandokan is a man capable of dragging, he was born a leader. With him, ten men are an army. Where one arrives after days of reasoning, he arrives in an instant. You kill him... and see him alive again. You manage to catch him, but he has already escaped. You don't just fight a man, but a legend."
