This afternoon, we watched the Doctor Who Christmas special from last night entitled "The Church on Ruby Road" and features the first full appearance of the 15th Doctor played by Ncuti Gatwa.
He meets a new companion in Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) as they rescue her baby foster sister from a group of Goblins on a flying ship in the clouds.
This is the first Christmas special since 2017, as Jodie Whittaker (12th Doctor) did not have any adventures at Christmas as she was boring and dull as dishwater.
This was a very good start to his time in the TARDIS and also a very good story as it had a few nods to my favourite fantasy movie "Labyrinth" and his portrayal of the Doctor was full of wonder and charm. He is a very sexy Doctor and it shows.
Some highlights of the special -
I love the nice mention of Harry Houdini as in the expanded universe, the Doctor has met him at least five different times as different incarnations of the Doctor.
The Goblin Band with the lead singer of Janice voiced by professional performer Christina Rotondo. was brilliant. and now that song is my new earworm.
Davina McCall was semi entertaining as herself who was interviewing Ruby who was looking for her birth parents.
Anita Dobson as Mrs. Flood was very mysterious and she might be someone we have already met before as she already knows who the Doctor is and what the TARDIS is. I have a few theories on who she is - Amy Pond? River Song? or someone else?
The story had a lot of nods to past adventures - The Crack in the wall/ceiling, the mention of water - Mrs. Flood.
I loved the Doctor's fascination with Knot language on board the Goblin Shop as there was a system transmitting information by rope knots, just like in the goblin ship, has some basis in reality. In the ancient Incan empire, quipu (or khipu) is a system of different knots tied in ropes attached to a longer cord.
It was not the best of the Christmas specials but at least we got one in the end, and the writing was actually quite good as was all the performances of the stars.
I think he will make a great Doctor and I am looking forward to next year's series.
I will rate this special a score of 8/10.
