This afternoon, we watched The Doctor Who special, the last one of the 60th Anniversary specials entitled "The Giggle." on BBC iPlayer.
"The giggle of a mysterious puppet is driving the Human race insane. When the Doctor discovers the return of the terrifying Toymaker, he faces a fight he can never win."
This was a far better and well written special with no pandering or a "message" to push down the audience throat, as was the other two specials did. This was in fact really brilliant and we actually loved it.
Neil Patrick Harris was a delight as the sinister villain The Celestial Toymaker, the first time the character has been on screen in 57 years when he was originally played by Michael Gough going up against the First Doctor.
We also had the return of Jemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge Stewart, the leader of UNIT. with an awesome London Tower HQ that resembles the MCU's Avengers Tower.
We also had the return of a former companion in the form of Melanie Bush, played by the legendary Bonnie Langford.
(She was the 6th & 7th Doctor's companion)
UNIT also had an interesting alien Android character named The Vilnx - He should be a fascinating character in future episodes of the series.
When the Toymaker attacks UNIT HQ, he uses the musical song of "Spice Up Your Life" by the British Girlband "The Spice Girls."
I am a fan of the Spice Girls, so this was a funny sequence as the Toymaker goes up against UNIT soldiers.
The ending was good as the Doctor does not regenerate but he Bi-Generates instead and splits into two and we get the first look at Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, and he was really good in his white boxer shorts and vest, as he and the 14th Doctor defeats the Toymaker and duplicates the TARDIS, so each one has their own Time machine.
The 14th (David Tennant) decides to take a break and settle down with Donna and her family, while we have the 15th going forth and travelling all of space and time!
We shall see him next on Christmas Day (well for my wife and I, it will be on Boxing Day)
I shall rate this special a score of 9/10.
