Today is the feast day of Saint Dogfael.
According to legend, Dogfael was a son of Cunedda Wledig, the first King of Gwynedd, who he accompanied from their homeland of Manaw Gododdin in the modern day Clackmannanshire region of Scotland, to expel Irish settlers from North Wales c 445 AD. Dogfael was rewarded by being made the ruler of the area around modern day Ruthin which was named Dogfeiling in his honour.
