If you find yourself renovating an old house and knocking through a wall, you might come across a small glass bottle which has been walled up for many, many years. It’s a dark amber, so you can’t quite see what’s in it, but when you hold it up to the light you think you can see maybe some hair, something which might be a tooth, perhaps a scrap of cloth.
A knowledgeable friend might tell you that it is a witch bottle, an old magical charm made to protect against witchcraft.
This is true as far as it goes, but what your friend doesn’t know is that it is also a witch bottle because it has a witch in it.
Don’t unstop it and let the air in. Because then you will let her out, and after being in there for over three centuries she is not in the best of moods.
