CHANGELINGS

Changelings are the offspring of fairies, trolls or any other mythical creature that was secretly left in place of a human child. It was believed that the changed child would become a servant, while the Changeling would be treated with much love and affection. Some Norwegian tales say that change was made to avoid inbreeding: creatures would receive human blood (which for fairies was noble) while humans would possess children with special abilities.
