I am a huge fan of The Three Musketeers!
Remember the stories where D'Artagnan was a French Musketeer who served Louis XIV as captain of the Musketeers of the Guard?
The story of these four French heroes was a fictionalised version of D'Artagnan Romances, based on the life of Gatien de Courtilz de Sandras, by Alexandre Dumas. I watched the films with my mother, they kept me enthralled as a child, I remember the 1948 version with Lana Turner as M'lady. I think Faye Dunaway played her in a 1970's version of the story.
The real D’Artagnan was Charles de Batz de Castelmore d'Artagnan, who was killed at the Siege of Maastricht, he was hit in the throat by a stray bullet on the 25th June 1673.
You can see a Statue of D'Artagnan in the town of Maastricht in the Netherlands.
