Humphrey the hedgehog was toasting his crumpets, beside the roaring fire
Soon it would be time to hibernate, so he was beginning to yawn and tire
But not before he'd enjoyed his tea and crumpets, and maybe a muffin or two
He was very partial to afternoon tea, sitting down with the fire as his view
For a little treat sometimes, he would even make a trifle
All covered in cream and custard, it really was quite an eyeful!
Sometimes he would nod off watching the dancing flames, under his blanket all cosy
With a contented smile on his face, and cheeks all a'blush and rosy
Snuffly snores would echo round his home under the tree roots, and his snout would twitch sleepily
And this was all before he even hibernated - all this sleeping and tea!
But once it was time to go to to sleep til Spring, he trundled to his special hibernation bed
Which was in the bottom of his wardrobe, somewhere dark and comfy to rest his spiky head
Where he would dream of daffodils and bluebells, his favourite flowers of the Spring
And birds and their babies in their nests, with their songs of new beginnings that they sing
But for now we will leave him with his crumpets, enjoying this moment in time
For butter dribbling down his whiskery chin, was really quite sublime..
