Last night, I finished watching "Berlin", a Spanish crime thriller on Netflix.
It's a prequel series to the masterful "Money Heist."
The series focuses on the life of Andrés de Fonollosa, aka "Berlin",
set many years before the events of seasons 1 and 2 of the original series.
His plan is to steal €44 million in jewels and framing the one who provided the security for it, things get complicated when, while spying on the victim, he falls in love with the victim's wife."
This is not as brilliant as the far superior "Money Heist", it has hardly any action in the show and it's more light hearted and humourous, which I don't normally mind, but it does not suit this show at all. And also it centres mostly on love and affairs than the actual heist which only happens in one episode, so not only do we have the lead character acting out of character, being more interested in pursuing the wife of the security guard and spending time drinking and making love, but we also have 4 other members of the gang falling in love with each other and another being depressed because he get's dumped by his wife.
It get's annoying really quickly and that is the downside of the show. Plus they make an awful amount of mistakes which was stupid. And the voice actor who dubs Berlin in this series is a different voice actor from Money Heist, which was off putting.
I was bored as hell, despite the last two episodes were the best of the 8-episode series, I was still bored!
Even the theme song was dull as dishwater.
I am very surprised that this show has been renewed for a second series, which is out in 2025!
They better listen to their fans and make a lot of changes to make this a better show.
I will rate this series a score of 5/10, and that is a huge shame as Money Heist was awesome throughout.
