Bakasura, the monster from Hindu Mythology.
A long time ago in the Indian village of Ekachakra, a horrible asura named Bakasura was terrorizing the people. The monster would eat anyone it came across indiscriminately. In order to lower the rate of the killings, the raja made a deal with Bakasura that he would send a cartload of food everyday if Bakasura stopped eating so many people. Unfortunately, not only would Bakasura eat the food sent with him but also the villager who brought the food. The village was stricken with grief from the loss of so many.
One day, a woman with her five sons come to Ekachakra and are given hospitality by a Brahmin and his family. Unfortunately, there was a misfortune brought upon the family; the village had decided that a member of the brahmin's household must bring the good cart to the demon the next day. Believing that she should help her benefactors, the guest insisted that one of her sons would take the food cart to Bakasura. The Brahmin family accepted the offer but little did they know the real reason why their guessed offered for one of her sons to go. In reality, this woman was Kunti, the wife of King Pandu, and her five sons were the legendary Pandava Brothers, five demigod heroes that were sons of Kunti and various Gods. Due to a lost bet that the Pandavas made with their cousins, known as the Kauravas, the Pandavas and their mother were sent into exhile for fourteen years. Kunti sent her son Bhima, the son of Vayu the Wind God, to fight Bakasura.
The next day, Bhima took the food cart and brought it to Bakasura's cave. In order to provoke the creature, Bhima boldly ate all of the food in the cart. Lured by the aroma, Bakasura was furious when he saw that there was no more food for him. Bhima and Bakasura flight for a long time but Bhima finally got the upper hand and killed Bakasura. Upon hearing that the monster was slain, the people rejoiced. The Pandavas left the village so that no one would recognize who they were.
There is now a Shiva Lingham and temple were Bakasura was supposedly slain.
