Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England. It iconsists of an outer ring of roughly 4.0 m tall, 2.1 m wide, and 25 ton weight sarsen standing stones connected by horizontal lintel stones. The monument, which is now in ruins, is aligned towards the sunrise on the summer solstice.
Stonehenge was built in six stages between 3000 and 1520 BCE, during the transition from the Neolithic Period to the Bronze Age. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1986.
