WEEK ONE: MY STROKE

I woke up slouched in my wheelchair on Monday morning.
I was very fuzzy, and I had trouble moving myself back up on my chair.
The reason being was that I had lost the use of my whole right arm.
Candy and I tried to massage it but nothing was working.
It seemed the signal from my brain to my arm was blocked.
I did get some feeling back but not much.

Tuesday, Candy rang up the GP to get advice, as it could have been a trapped nerve.
The GP rang an ambulance for us, which the Paramedics checked me over
and organised for me to go to the Stroke Ward at St. James Cook Hospital.
There was nothing else I could do that day except try to exercise my arm.

Wednesday we woke up really early to get ready for the Patient Transport to pick us up.
They would not allow Candy into Ward 28, so she sat outside in the corridor and waited for me.
They had to use a harness lift to get me onto the bed which hurt a tiny bit.
I was asked a lot of questions about what happened, and they told me what they had planned for me.
I had 2 Doctors and 2 Nurses Try to take my blood on both of my arms,
For which they failed, and it took them 1 hour 30 mins to finally get a trickle of blood outof me.
It's my blood and I was not going to give it up!
After the Vampires attacked, I was wheeled down in my bed to another ward for a CT scan.
Now this was scary and it hurt like hell.
I was slid onto the bed, straight backed, which I had trouble breathing.
I closed my eyes as I was inside the machine, everything was hurting and I really wanted my Candy with me.
Anyway, after this I was taken back to my room and I took a breather.
I was quite sick at this point too.
The Consultant came to see me and told me that after viewing my scans, it looks like that I had a mini-stroke on Monday and several more in the past.
I was to take some medication and have an EEG monitor fitted to me for 24 hours.
He informed Candy everything of what's happened, which I was grateful as I would not remember.
Anyway I was released to go home.

Thursday and Friday I relaxed as much as I could and exercised my arm and hand.
Physio came out to see me and go through a work plan to get me back to normal.
I did however have a dodgy tummy, and I kept going to the loo.

Saturday and Sunday I spent the time watching movies and TV shows.
Tomorrow - Monday 8th will be my first day of physio, So hopefully I will get back to my old self soon.
