WISE WORDS FROM HAWKEYE

CANDY's RANT ABOUT MY PHYSIO

Okay, couple of mini rants coming up...
So most of y'all know I know my way around muscles and training, I bang on abut it enough! 🤷 But I'm no expert in Stroke Rehab, sure I helped my Dad after his, but back in 2002 they did ZERO work on his hand/arm - just focussed on his leg and standing/transferring, so he lost all use of his left hand but he was right handed, so he got by. Now Jason is RIGHT handed and that's the side of weakness, but there's been a glaring amount of omissions in his Occupational Therapy! Okay, yes he has me to help but I don't see why he shouldn't be treated the same as an independent person. Pretty damn sure he would have had instructions on how to do BASIC things if he lived on his own! Brush teeth - can't even hold a toothbrush, brush hair - can't hold brush or precisely touch head, lift a mug of tea - not a chance, pour a kettle/milk jug, stir a cup of liquid, fasten buttons on a shirt, put on a t-shirt, open a door with a handle, unlock the front door - I had to suggest that one! 🙄 Hold a spoon to eat cereal, hold a cloth to wash face, use his own phone - either to text or make calls, take his own medication, do his own insulin with his pen, nothing really useful! I'm assuming, they think I'm just going to do EVERYTHING - which, yes sure I help, but what if something happens to me, they've equipped him with nothing of ACTUAL "occupational therapy" worth! Everything he's done, is great and it's still hard work, but I really expected a lot more input and a full 6wks of help not just barely 3wks and a rushed "Physio" session this morning, then a goodbye!!

I've not given Jason exercises to do as I thought the fine motor control exercises were more important and what the OT and Physio were working on, as said on previous rant, it's not my field of expertise! But having a physio, run through half a dozen "exercises" for Jason to do with a resistance band, in the very last session, rushed through and then signed off, just doesn't seem good enough! They knew from the start I had resistance bands for my own workouts, they said it's too early for that so I held back! But really he could have been doing exercises nearly 2wks ago with his grip strength! Plus, seriously, not actually sure what muscles she was trying to aim to engage with those "exercises" but they won't, trust me! 🙄 Sure, I got knowledge aplenty in the injury rehab area and the building of muscle but it just feels off, when they leave the ACTUAL physio to the very last day. Just cause Jason has me and I "know's what she's talking about" doesn't mean that you leave us to it... Going from the 1st June, with zero hand movement and minimal arm, to can pick up buttons, bat a balloon, type very slowly and lift a sports bottle....then Goodbye, you'll be fine from here just carry on....seems more than a little half arsed, frankly. Looks like, as usual, we'll have to get through everything else between us, no wonder we are fed up of healthcare "professional" types letting us down.... Rant over....

Today way back in 1908, an explosion in Russia leveled 770 sq miles of forest in what would become known as the Tunguska Event.
Thought to be the result of an air-burst from a meteor or comet, the event is still perplexing over 100 years later - and many are the theories as to its cause.

HISTORY OF THE POINT

In the 1980s, cinema audiences were in decline nationally, due among other reasons to high ticket prices, TV channels and video recorders.
Smaller cinemas were closing down as they were no longer economic to operate.

The Point opened in 1985 and included a 10-screen multiplex cinema, the UK's first multiplex.
The first company to run the cinema was AMC Theatres in conjunction with Milton Keynes Entertainment Corporation (MKEC).

The venue was an instant success and its opening caused, at least partially, the closure of the traditional cinemas in Bletchley and Newport Pagnell.

In 1991, it hosted a royal première of Harrison Ford's Presumed Innocent and was attended by Sarah, Duchess of York.

The pyramid section of the Point on opening housed The Brasserie, The Croc Bar, a games arcade and a nightclub, as well as a Bingo hall (Gala Bingo) in the basement.
There was a small newsagents outside the main entrance.

In 1995, the owners of The Point refurbished the building and added a pizza restaurant (Deep Pan Pizza, later The Fresh Pizza Company), a health club and a bar/nightclub (Oasis, later Nexus).

The opening of Xscape in 2000 was to mark the beginning of the decline of The Point's fortunes.
Xscape featured a more lucrative, state-of-the-art 16 screen multiplex, operated by Cineworld.

With the two cinemas virtually in close proximity to one another, it soon became apparent that The Point just couldn't compete.
Xscape quickly took the vast majority of The Point's cinemagoers, and in 2003, UCI abruptly left Milton Keynes, deciding to rent out the cinema part of the building in order to continue to honour its lease with the complex's owners.

The cinema was rented out to the easyGroup, renaming the cinema as easyCinema.com.
The ticket pricing was based on the EasyJet model with low headline prices (from 20p) for early bookers, then increasing according to demand.
The foyer's popcorn, drinks and sweet stands were removed, replacing them with a vast empty space.

Visitors were encouraged to bring their own food.
It showed films that had just recently finished their prime location runs and it did not rely on fixed showtimes.
The business plan assumed that the operators could negotiate a fixed price for films (rather than a percentage per ticket sold), but the studios refused to negotiate on this basis.

Later ventures within the area included an easyInternetCafe and an easyPizza pick up point.
The cinema and business model was unsuccessful, in May 2006 the lease was not renewed and the company handed back the cinema to UCI which by then was owned by Terra Firma who also owned Odeon Cinemas and was renamed Odeon as were all UCI cinemas not closed or sold off .

United Cinemas International or UCI was now owned by AMC Cinemas along with Odeon Cinemas with the UCI brand being dropped by Terrafirma in favour of the longer established Odeon brand.
In May 2006, the site was refurbished and reopened as an Odeon Cinema.
Despite the high-profile presence of Odeon, this couldn't halt the continuing decline of visitors.

In 2007, both the pizza restaurant and nightclub closed due to a lack of business.
These remained empty for many years, before becoming a YMCA funded cafe and a Connexions careers office respectively.

By 2009, the illuminated lights on the pyramid no longer lit up at night, signalling how much of a less importance it had become in recent times.

In 2012, the Point's owners Hammerson, launched proposed plans to restructure the building as a new shopping and leisure complex, and asked for feedback from public in an open consultation.
The plans were largely protested by some, given the building's history.
An application to give the building listed grade II status was rejected.

In 2013, Odeon announced plans to relocate to a new, 11-screen complex, complete with MK's first IMAX screen, in Denbigh, directly next to Stadium mk, in a joint partnership with Milton Keynes Dons.

The Point's cinema closed for the final time on 26 February 2015, nearly 30 years since its opening. The last ever film to be shown in the cinema was Kingsman: The Secret Service. Odeon's new cinema, officially known as 'Odeon Milton Keynes Stadium', opened for business the next day.

WEEK FIVE: PHYSIO STRETCH

I am fucking bolloxed already this morning.
Just done a strict 45 min physio session, my final appointment now.
I was using the intense strong fitness bands to excerise my hand/arm.
I have no idea why they did not use these on me before now, but I am knacked.
Plus doing all of this before taking my insulin injection has made me rather dizzy now.
So now I've been given a new exercise plan to work on,
with Candy taking over my training from now on.
I admit I am now very tired and very thirsty and hungry.
I need some energy boosters or drugs to keep me going today now.

EMPATHIC OVERLOAD

TOXIC JOB!

My toxic environment, was when I was working for Moss Bros. (the 1st time). The manager was a complete bastard, a former Army MP who was a very angry man, he made my life a living hell, to the point that I wanted to die! He bullied and threatened me on almost a daily basis. Even the other staff members were nasty towards me as I did not fit in. One day it got so bad that I decided to quit on the spot. I went downstairs to confront him, I threw my lapel pin at him, flipped him the finger, and told him to fuck off as I marched out of the shop, I turned round to to give him a grim and his face was red with anger, and his hands were gripping the counter top. I went straight to the Oasis bar for a whisky to calm my nerves as I was shaking. I was very proud of my actions, and also very lucky as I got a job a week later working at UCI cinema, which is one of my favourite jobs ever.

VENICE FROM ABOVE.

you can hear them whisper that their bums are numb after sitting in the same spot for decades.

WEEK FOUR: PHYSIO BALLOONS

Vic and Rachel turned up very early today as I was in the middle of getting a body wash.
I showed off what I'm capable of doing now and what I've learnt so far.
I then transferred into HAWK WHEELS, my motorised wheelchair, and drove over to the bed to transfer over to it.
It was a bit difficult as the bed is very squishy.
Another reason why I don't sleep in the bed, apart from the back pain.
I did a good job and they were very impressed by me doing it.
Then I wheeled outside into our carport and had a drive around for a bit to get use to the controls again with my weak hand.
Candy and I then played a game of Balloon Volleyball, chucking a balloon at each other and catching it.
But I burst it accidentally.
The whole session lasted 45 minutes, which was good.
Next week is my final physio sessions and after that I will be doing it alone with Candy helping.

Tomorrow will be the one year anniversary when my life changed in ways I thought would never happen to me.

19th June 2013 10:22pm, I got up to go for a pee,
I was holding onto my walking frame as I already had problems with my legs due to my lymphedema and they were both bandaged up.
I got to the doorway of the kitchen to enter the corridor when my left leg stopped working and I could not hold myself up properly, Candy was in front of me and tried to hold me up but I told her to let go as I knew I was about to fall and I did not want to take her down with me, and then…WHAAAAM! I was on the floor with Candy anyway.
I was in quite a bit of pain because my knee was hurting, and then Candy asked how my ankle was feeling and I replied back with a why? And she revealed to me that my right foot was now facing backwards! I had dislocated it.
She tried to help me onto the bed but she could not so she phoned for the fire brigade to come round and lift me up onto the bed, as the ambulance service refused to come round to just lift me up as they only deal with medical emergencies.
We could not get a GP out to see me until the next morning so we both tried to get some sleep despite the pain I was in, now I am very good at suppressing my pain as I do have a good threshold but it still bloody hurt!
The next day at around 5pm (as no one could be bothered to come out until then) a GP came over and took off some of the bandaging on my right foot and discovered a great big gaping hole in my ankle with the white bone peeking through and saying Hello! At this point I kinda panicked and Candy apologised and told me that I’ve got to go to hospital.
The first two weeks I was in hospital, I had no medical dressings as the nurses were told not to touch me as the wound care nurse was on holiday and she was the only one in the big hospital who deals with such stuff.
I had my right leg amputated on the 4th July and my left leg on the 20th August.
As why I had my legs amputated above knee was because they left my right leg untreated for two weeks and my left leg only had an ulcer on the bottom of my left foot which was not treated either despite our nagging to the nurses who did fuck all.
I have even been told that I would never get false legs because of the bilateral above knee operations. Which is bollocks as plenty of ex-armed forces soldiers have such legs and get to lead ‘normal lives’ which I can’t.
I just want a chance to walk again, to wander through woods, to go into underground caves and tunnels doing my ghost hunting, to climb stairs, go into shops that I can’t get into because of my wheelchair.

WEEK ONE: MY STROKE

I woke up slouched in my wheelchair on Monday morning.
I was very fuzzy, and I had trouble moving myself back up on my chair.
The reason being was that I had lost the use of my whole right arm.
Candy and I tried to massage it but nothing was working.
It seemed the signal from my brain to my arm was blocked.
I did get some feeling back but not much.

Tuesday, Candy rang up the GP to get advice, as it could have been a trapped nerve.
The GP rang an ambulance for us, which the Paramedics checked me over
and organised for me to go to the Stroke Ward at St. James Cook Hospital.
There was nothing else I could do that day except try to exercise my arm.

Wednesday we woke up really early to get ready for the Patient Transport to pick us up.
They would not allow Candy into Ward 28, so she sat outside in the corridor and waited for me.
They had to use a harness lift to get me onto the bed which hurt a tiny bit.
I was asked a lot of questions about what happened, and they told me what they had planned for me.
I had 2 Doctors and 2 Nurses Try to take my blood on both of my arms,
For which they failed, and it took them 1 hour 30 mins to finally get a trickle of blood outof me.
It's my blood and I was not going to give it up!
After the Vampires attacked, I was wheeled down in my bed to another ward for a CT scan.
Now this was scary and it hurt like hell.
I was slid onto the bed, straight backed, which I had trouble breathing.
I closed my eyes as I was inside the machine, everything was hurting and I really wanted my Candy with me.
Anyway, after this I was taken back to my room and I took a breather.
I was quite sick at this point too.
The Consultant came to see me and told me that after viewing my scans, it looks like that I had a mini-stroke on Monday and several more in the past.
I was to take some medication and have an EEG monitor fitted to me for 24 hours.
He informed Candy everything of what's happened, which I was grateful as I would not remember.
Anyway I was released to go home.

Thursday and Friday I relaxed as much as I could and exercised my arm and hand.
Physio came out to see me and go through a work plan to get me back to normal.
I did however have a dodgy tummy, and I kept going to the loo.

Saturday and Sunday I spent the time watching movies and TV shows.
Tomorrow - Monday 8th will be my first day of physio, So hopefully I will get back to my old self soon.
