TOP GUN: MAVERICK

I have just finished watching this epic action drama film on Amazon Prime. It is the sequel to the 1986 Top Gun movie.
Starring the action supergod Tom Cruise who reprises his role as Maverick who ends up as a teacher at the Top Gun academy to train a new young group of pilots for a special mission to destroy an unknown and faceless enemy camp in some unknown rogue nation that America does not improve of.
The movie budget is $170 million and took a record box office takings of over $1.488 billion, which is Cruise's highest rated movie so far in his infamous career.
All the actors trained in flying real jets, working in Zero-G environments, and they all did an awesome job.
I love the fact that Tom does nearly all of his stunts, and that is incredible to see, he does have a great work ethic and it shows. Now on to the not so good points of the film -
The whole story is a kind of a rip off of the Rebel attack on the Death Star in Star Wars IV: A New Hope. which is okay, I suppose.

As for the beginning part of the story, I can see the fan theory that Maverick actually died at the beginning and the whole film is him in Purgatory or the Afterlife, even down to the fact the new characters replay certain sequences from the first movie, even down to the singing around the piano in the bar, and the beach ball sequence.
If you know what I mean, ((SPOILERS AHEAD)) - Maverick disappeared after his test ship went over Mach 10.4 and then the radar looses him as his ship crashes, and the next scene, he walks into a diner and wondering where he is.
The movie does have a nice cameo from Val Kilmer with his voice dubbed by an A.I. as the actor has lost the use of his voice due to throat cancer.
This is a real good film and it does earn all the praise and box office takings.
I will rate this film a score of 8/10.
