Real Name: Bertrand "Beakie" Beales
Occupation: Former Engineer, Professional Criminal
Synopsis: Bertrand Beales was an exceptionally bright but lazy and arrogant child. His classmates began referring to the unpleasant boy as "Beakie" because of his lanky, stooped, and rather avian appearance. His near-perfect memory enabled him to easily sail through his schooling, earning him a full scolarship to Aegis City University's renowned engineering program. He began working on applications of "Z particles" under famed scientist Dr. Laszlo Metzger.
Dr. Metzger was perfecting an engine that would eliminate crude oil-based jet fuels and had reduced the engine's size to a thirty pound unit easily strapped to an individual's back. Beales, seeing an opportunity to beat Metzger to the punch, snuck into the ACUs aeronautical engineering lab to steal the plans for the device. When Metzger discovered him, Beales knocked the doctor unconscious. He then strapped a prototype of Metzger's engine to the doctor's back and threw him from the top of the college's science department. Dr. Metzger's death was ruled an experimental accident and Beales absconded with the research, miniaturizing it even further to fit into a belt buckle.
Realizing that he could never go public with the device without revealing his role in Metzger's demise he hearkened back to the mockery of his childhood. Crafting the disguise and identity of the Red Raptor, Beales embarked on a life of crime, stealing technology to reverse engineer, improve upon, and sell to the highest bidder.

Skills, Talents, and Abilities: Bertrand Beales is a brilliant but unaccomplished engineer. While fully capable of inventing advanced technology on his own, his laziness and arrogance limits him to stealing and utilizing the work of others. He possesses a near-eidetic memory which he uses to study the strategies of master criminals but his impatience and propensity for underestimating his opponents usually proves his undoing.
Weapons and Equipment: The Red Raptor's primary piece of equipment is his "propulsion belt", a device he stole from Dr. Metzger and improved upon. The belt uses Z particles (an unknown form of energy discovered by Dr. Metzger) to generate lift and thrust silently, responding to mental commands processed by the belt's onboard computers. While he can theoretically climb to 20,000 feet and attain speeds of 300 mph, Beales' cowardly nature rarely allows hims to travel much higher than Aegis City's skyscrapers (about 1400 ft) or faster than 120 mph. Utilizing the belt enables him to carry about 200 additional pounds aloft but his poor conditioning is prohibitive.
The Red Raptor uses special contact lenses (one of his few actual inventions) to both shield his eyes and sharpen his vision, making it comparable to a tawny owl (about 100× sharper than the average human).
He outfits his costume with lightweight bulk to appear more intimidating and the whole of it is interlaced with a 200 GSM Kevlar weave capable of stopping a 9 mm round. He has fitted his gloves and boots with talon-like blades forged of carbon steel.
He secrets a parachute under his cape in case of equipment failure and a net gun in his boots.
Henchmen: The Red Raptor regularly employs low-rate thugs (his "Flock") whom he outfits with flying devices to assist him in his criminal activities.
