It has nothing to do with the classic series/movies/book of the same name. It just shares the title.
Even the "Aliens" are not from Mars! and there are no Tripods or anything worth of looking Alien as the Invaders are all Human looking. This is a major bugbear I have with Sci-Fi Invasion shows, where they all look Human.
As for the twist at the end, it was interesting and involves time-travelling and temporal paradox's
I don't know where the series is now heading as it has already filmed a third season which will be shown later this year, but they now exist in an alternate timeline where Earth was not invaded by the "Aliens"
I shall rate this season a score of 7/10.
It was good but not perfect and there was a heck load of plotholes.
