In 1440 – French Knight Baron Gilles de Rais, one of the earliest known Serial Killers, was taken into custody upon an accusation brought against him by the Bishop of Nantes.
The Bishop claimed that the Knight murdered 500+ children, so that he could summon a Demon for help in gaining riches. There was no proof, but he was hung anyway for his supposed crimes.
Afterwards, the Bishop gained all of the Knight's lands and property and distributed them among his fellow Nobles.
